The Lawrence Art Party is looking for artists to show with their gallery for this upcoming Final Friday Art Walk on September 27th, 2013. And all future Final Friday showings.
Message below from Sarah Kunen: We support KU and community artists in our gallery which is sponsored by the Lawrence Creates Makerspace and the Lawrence Art Guild, a 40 year old organization. You can learn more about the community Makerspace and how to be involved as well. The gallery accepts all forms of art - installation, textiles, printmaking, sculpture, paintings, drawings, spoken word, performance, music, group showings, etc. As a KU student there is a discount on the fee to show, rather than $20 it is $10, and there is 10% commission on any art sold. Although it is not required that you sell your work. All fees go to supporting the gallery and the Lawrence Creates Makerspace. If you want to show your art or known someone who should, email [email protected] with a couple images of what you plan on showing. Please, spread the word, tell your friends, your students, your instructors! We would love to have you and see your work. Thank you and we hope to see you at the Final Friday Art Walk this month! http://penland.org/classes/summer/summer_assistantships.html Studio assistants are students who assist instructors and fellow students and are responsible for maintaining the school’s standards for studio operation. Assistants receive housing and meals, and pay only the $50 nonrefundable processing fee. Assistants are selected based on their knowledge of a working studio. In addition to 25–40 hours of work each week, studio assistants are required to work from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM on the day before and the day after their session, and must make travel arrangements which will allow them to meet this requirement. If you cannot meet this requirement, please do not apply. Many instructors select their own assistants; check the list below to determine availability of positions before applying. To apply, check the studio assistant box on the application form, and include a letter explaining your experience in the field and your interest in the class, along with a résume, two letters of recommendation, five printed images of your work (maximum size 8-1/2 x 11, no slides or CDs), and the $50 processing fee. Applications must be received no later than February 15, and must include letters of reference. Applicants will be notified by April 1. International students note: because the U.S. government considers our studio assistant program to be work for hire, students who are not U.S. citizens may not receive studio assistantships unless they have a work permit. DEADLINE: AUGUST 31, 2012
On September 15th the Garden City Art gallery in Garden City, Kansas will open the show “Ad Astra per Academia”, a collection of student work to display the talent of art students at KU and K-State. The gallery is looking for a wide variety of different art forms, both 2D and 3D. We want the KU art and design programs to be well represented at the show, so students of all disciplines are highly encouraged to submit their work! To submit your work, send small jpeg files to me at: [email protected] no later than August 31st. I will notify you within a couple of days if your work has been accepted. Please have the selected works ready to be presented and delivered to me by September 7th. After collecting all the work, I will deliver it to the gallery. Students will be notified when the show is over and I return the work to KU. Note: Garden City is quite a way from Lawrence, so special care will have to be taken to safely transport the artwork. Extremely fragile pieces are not recommended. Please inform me when you submit your jpeg files if your art piece will require extra special care. Feel free to contact me if you have any questions! I look forward to viewing the submissions! Katherine Andrews [email protected] Stand Out Prints 2012: Exhibition Opportunity at Highpoint Center for Printmaking
