PRINTWORK 2013 is a national juried exhibition at Artists Image Resource in Pittsburgh.
The juror for our second annual juried exhibition is Tina Kukielski, the co-curator of the 2013 Carnegie International at the Carnegie Museum of Art in Pittsburgh. $500 first place award in addition to other cash awards. About the Competition The Print Center’s Annual International Competition is one of the most prestigious and oldest competitions in the United States. The Print Center is particularly interested in highlighting local, national and international artists who utilize photography and printmaking in intriguing ways, both in content and process. Artists who use printmaking and/or photography as critical components of their work, or whose work pushes the boundaries of traditional photographic and printmaking practices, are encouraged to enter. Work submitted must have been completed in the last three years. Submitted works cannot have been exhibited within 50 miles of Philadelphia or in any prior exhibition at The Print Center. Up to five images may be submitted and only one submission per person. Accepted formats: Images: Up to 5 MB/each: jpg, png, gif Videos: Up to 60 MB/each: mov, wmv, flv, mp4 You will be asked to label each uploaded file with Title, Date, Medium (e.g. etching, inkjet, gelatin silver, lithograph) and Size. Online Exhibition An online exhibition on The Print Center’s website will include the semi-finalists and all the images submitted by those artists, as well as biographical information and links to the artists’ own websites. Ten finalists will have more extensive information on the site, including additional images. Artists will be contacted by The Print Center for additional information and images. Solo Exhibitions Three artists will be selected from the ten finalists to receive solo exhibitions at The Print Center. Those artists will receive a $200 honorarium. Pending funding, especially for international artists, this amount may increase. Artists are responsible for delivering or shipping their work to and from The Print Center and all related costs, including framing when appropriate. Julia Dolan is The Minor White Curator of Photography at the Portland Art Museum, Portland, OR, where she oversees the research, documentation and exhibition of the permanent collection of more than 7,000 photographs. She has worked with the photography collections at institutions including the Philadelphia Museum of Art, Philadelphia, PA; Addison Gallery of American Art, Andover, MA; Fogg Art Museum; Cambridge, MA; and the Palmer Museum of Art, University Park, PA. She has curated and co-curated numerous photography exhibitions including Transcending the Literal: Photographs by Ansel Adams from the Collection(2008)and Spectacle (2009)at the Philadelphia Museum of Art, as well as Likeness: Portraiture from the Photography Collection (2011), 70 Years/70 Photographs (2012), andSurface: Landscape Photography (2013)at the Portland Art Museum. Dolan is currently working on the exhibition The Question of Hope: Robert Adams in Western Oregon. Bruce Guenther is the Chief Curator and the Robert and Mercedes Eichholz Curator of Modern and Contemporary Art at the Portland Art Museum, Portland, OR. He has served also served as curator the Orange County Museum of Art, Newport Beach, CA; Museum of Contemporary Art, Chicago, IL; and Seattle Art Museum, Seattle, WA. Recent exhibitions curated by Guenther have included the work of Mike Kelley, Bruce Nauman, Gerhard Richter and Cindy Sherman. He has written and lectured extensively on art of the last one hundred years and served as a juror for regional and national exhibitions and as a panelist for the GSA Art in Architecture Program. The Print Center will receive a 50% commission on works sold. A pricelist will be made available in the gallery. The Print Center will pay the artist’s commission within 90 days of the close of the sale. Payment will be made by check and will include a statement listing work sold and the purchaser (if available). Liability The Print Center is not responsible for damage to work during shipping or delivery, although care in handling onsite can be assured. Works will be insured against fire and theft while on The Print Center’s premises. Emerging Artists Competition and Exhibition JANUARY 27 – FEBRUARY 22, 2014 Call for Entries ApplicationDownloadable & printable application The Janet Turner Print Museum seeks artists who push the boundaries of traditional printmaking in unique and innovative ways including using combinations of media. Creative works that reference and expand printmaking’s traditions are encouraged. Print images, objects and related print works that can encompass 2D, 3D, book arts, printed ephemera, time-based work, and installations are eligible. Critical elements include a well-developed aesthetic including contemporary issues and their expression in content. ELIGIBLE ARTISTS Any artist working in and expanding printmaking as an art form is eligible to submit work. All submissions must have been created within the last two years. http://penland.org/classes/summer/summer_assistantships.html Studio assistants are students who assist instructors and fellow students and are responsible for maintaining the school’s standards for studio operation. Assistants receive housing and meals, and pay only the $50 nonrefundable processing fee. Assistants are selected based on their knowledge of a working studio. In addition to 25–40 hours of work each week, studio assistants are required to work from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM on the day before and the day after their session, and must make travel arrangements which will allow them to meet this requirement. If you cannot meet this requirement, please do not apply. Many instructors select their own assistants; check the list below to determine availability of positions before applying. To apply, check the studio assistant box on the application form, and include a letter explaining your experience in the field and your interest in the class, along with a résume, two letters of recommendation, five printed images of your work (maximum size 8-1/2 x 11, no slides or CDs), and the $50 processing fee. Applications must be received no later than February 15, and must include letters of reference. Applicants will be notified by April 1. International students note: because the U.S. government considers our studio assistant program to be work for hire, students who are not U.S. citizens may not receive studio assistantships unless they have a work permit. The Bradley International Print and Drawing Exhibition is the second-longest running juried print and drawing competition in the country. Every two years it features the best contemporary graphic artwork from around the globe. All accepted artwork is featured in a full-color exhibition catalogue and on the exhibition website. The 34th Bradley International will be juried by Stephen Goddard, Senior Curator and Curator of Prints and Drawings at The University of Kansas Kress Foundation. Any artist 18 years of age or older is encouraged to submit original prints or drawings produced within the last three years (2009-2012). Experimental techniques are encouraged. Open to all traditional and non-traditional graphic media, including all forms of printmaking, drawing, and book arts. Three cash awards will be selected by the Juror.
