Guidelines for Professional Conference Classification KU undergraduates are eligible to apply for funding from the Center for Undergraduate Research in order to present their original research at professional conferences. Please use the following guidelines to determine whether or not the conference you plan to attend would be considered a “professional conference.” If you feel that your conference does not meet these criteria but is still a “professional” conference for some reason, please email[email protected].
Department of Visual Art Professional Development Assistance Award Deadline: Monday, December 9, 2013, 4pm Submit to the Visual Art Department office (Room 300, Art & Design Building) The Department of Visual Art awards funding to outstanding students to support their professional creative activities after graduation. If you will be graduating after this Fall 2013 semester, you are eligible to apply. Additional requirements can be found on the attached guideline. THIS FALL 2013, THERE IS FUNDING AVAILABLE FOR STUDENTS IN VISUAL ART WHO MEET THE FOLLOWING CRITERIA: 1) Creative research proposals from female undergraduate student(s) in all media 2) Creative research proposals with student’s work in figurative painting and/or drawing 3) Creative research proposals with student’s work in painting and/or drawing Note: Final awards will range from approximately $500 – up to $1000 Every year, the Department of Visual Art grants Professional Development Assistance Awards to graduating seniors to financially assist in their post-graduate professional activities. These can include gallery exhibition, artist residency, professional workshops, professional materials developments, such as websites and other published promotional materials, research travels, etc. The awards are given on the basis of merit and quality of the submitted professional development proposal and accompanying budget proposal, applicant’s academic record, creative work, resumé, and artist statement. Assistants receive housing and meals, and pay only the $50 nonrefundable processing fee. Assistants are selected based on their knowledge of a working studio. In addition to 25–40 hours of work each week, studio assistants are required to work from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM on the day before and the day after their session, and must make travel arrangements which will allow them to meet this requirement. If you cannot meet this requirement, please do not apply. Many instructors select their own assistants; check the list below to determine availability of positions before applying. To apply, check the studio assistant box on the application form, and include a letter explaining your experience in the field and your interest in the class, along with a résume, two letters of recommendation, five printed images of your work (maximum size 8-1/2 x 11, no slides or CDs), and the $50 processing fee. Applications must be received no later than February 15, and must include letters of reference. Applicants will be notified by April 1. International students note: because the U.S. government considers our studio assistant program to be work for hire, students who are not U.S. citizens may not receive studio assistantships unless they have a work permit.
