LOCATION/CONTEXT
On behalf of a public art initiative for the city of Warrensburg, Missouri, the Warrensburg Arts Commission (WAC) seeks a two-dimensional design for a 10-foot diameter etched concrete circle that will be permanently installed in the sidewalk on Pine Street in historic downtown Warrensburg. PROJECT INTENT/SITE During the last ten years, almost one million dollars has been invested to improve the aesthetics and infrastructure in Warrensburg’s downtown district. Improvements include the street surfaces; new 8’ wide concrete sidewalks with 2’ wide brick pavers on the outside edge of the sidewalks; and upgraded electrical, sewer, storm water, landscaping, signage, water, gas, cable, and phone services. In the center of the Arts and Entertainment District of Pine Street in downtown Warrensburg, a 10-foot diameter concrete circle will be laid in the sidewalk on the north side of Pine Street. A professional concrete etching company will reproduce the winning design on the circle. Please see the architectural rendering of the site on our Facebook page. THEME/STYLE There is no pre-determined theme for artwork, but WAC suggests that the content reflect the vibrancy of downtown, the beauty of the region, and the energy of the Arts and Entertainment District. Whether your design is abstract or representational, we encourage you to create a design unaccompanied by a dog, bomber, or mule. Please see a selection of example images on our Facebook page (www.facebook.com/groups/504736136206326) or at www.burgarts.com. PROJECT FUNDS An honorarium of $500 will be awarded for the chosen design. WAC and the City of Warrensburg shall also have the option of making no selection. In this event, a new selection process may be initiated or the project abandoned. The award funds are made available through the WAC and the City of Warrensburg. OWNERSHIP The design for the circle becomes property of the City of Warrensburg. The artist shall retain copyright to the work and will grant WAC and the City of Warrensburg a license to display the work and create and distribute reproductions of the work, including digital and photographic images for archival and promotional purposes.
