PRINTWORK 2013

PRINTWORK 2013 is a national juried exhibition at Artists Image Resource in Pittsburgh.

The juror for our second annual juried exhibition is Tina Kukielski, the co-curator of the 2013 Carnegie International at the Carnegie Museum of Art in Pittsburgh.

$500 first place award in addition to other cash awards.

AIR Director Robert Beckman will choose one artist to be invited to have a solo exhibition at Artists Image Resource during the PRINTWORK 2014 exhibition.

Postmarked deadline for submission is Sept. 28 2013.

Awards + Prizes
Three solo exhibitions at The Print Center to be held June-July 2014, Online exhibition, Philadelphia Museum of Art Purchase Award, Two-year contract from The Print Center Gallery Store, and up to $3,000 in purchase, cash and material prizes.

About the Competition 
The Print Center’s Annual International Competition is one of the most prestigious and oldest competitions in the United States. The Print Center is particularly interested in highlighting local, national and international artists who utilize photography and printmaking in intriguing ways, both in content and process. Artists who use printmaking and/or photography as critical components of their work, or whose work pushes the boundaries of traditional photographic and printmaking practices, are encouraged to enter.

Your entry fee to the competition also includes a one-year Artist Level Membership to The Print Center.

Eligibility
All artists using photography and/or printmaking as critical components in their works can enter. Work submitted must have been completed in the last three years. Submitted works cannot have been exhibited within 50 miles of Philadelphia or in any prior exhibition at The Print Center. Up to five images may be submitted and only one submission per person.

Accepted formats:
Images: Up to 5 MB/each: jpg, png, gif
Videos: Up to 60 MB/each: mov, wmv, flv, mp4
You will be asked to label each uploaded file with Title, Date, Medium (e.g. etching, inkjet, gelatin silver, lithograph) and Size.

Online Exhibition
An online exhibition on The Print Center’s website will include the semi-finalists and all the images submitted by those artists, as well as biographical information and links to the artists’ own websites. Ten finalists will have more extensive information on the site, including additional images. Artists will be contacted by The Print Center for additional information and images.

Solo Exhibitions
Three artists will be selected from the ten finalists to receive solo exhibitions at The Print Center. Those artists will receive a $200 honorarium. Pending funding, especially for international artists, this amount may increase. Artists are responsible for delivering or shipping their work to and from The Print Center and all related costs, including framing when appropriate. The Print Center will install and de-install work.

Julia Dolan
 is The Minor White Curator of Photography at the Portland Art Museum, Portland, OR, where she oversees the research, documentation and exhibition of the permanent collection of more than 7,000 photographs. She has worked with the photography collections at institutions including the Philadelphia Museum of Art, Philadelphia, PA; Addison Gallery of American Art, Andover, MA; Fogg Art Museum; Cambridge, MA; and the Palmer Museum of Art, University Park, PA. She has curated and co-curated numerous photography exhibitions including Transcending the Literal: Photographs by Ansel Adams from the Collection(2008)and Spectacle (2009)at the Philadelphia Museum of Art, as well as Likeness: Portraiture from the Photography Collection (2011), 70 Years/70 Photographs (2012), andSurface: Landscape Photography (2013)at the Portland Art Museum. Dolan is currently working on the exhibition The Question of Hope: Robert Adams in Western Oregon.

Bruce Guenther is the Chief Curator and the Robert and Mercedes Eichholz Curator of Modern and Contemporary Art at the Portland Art Museum, Portland, OR. He has served also served as curator the Orange County Museum of Art, Newport Beach, CA; Museum of Contemporary Art, Chicago, IL; and Seattle Art Museum, Seattle, WA. Recent exhibitions curated by Guenther have included the work of Mike Kelley, Bruce Nauman, Gerhard Richter and Cindy Sherman. He has written and lectured extensively on art of the last one hundred years and served as a juror for regional and national exhibitions and as a panelist for the GSA Art in Architecture Program.

Sales
The Print Center will facilitate sales for the solo and online exhibitions of the Competition. The Print Center will receive a 50% commission on works sold. A pricelist will be made available in the gallery. The Print Center will pay the artist’s commission within 90 days of the close of the sale. Payment will be made by check and will include a statement listing work sold and the purchaser (if available).

Liability
The Print Center is not responsible for damage to work during shipping or delivery, although care in handling onsite can be assured. Works will be insured against fire and theft while on The Print Center’s premises.

Mission 
The Print Center’s mission is to support printmaking and photography as vital contemporary arts and to encourage the appreciation of the printed image in all its forms. The Print Center presents a variety of programs for the public including exhibitions; an extensive series of education programs and special events; the longest running annual international competition for prints and photographs in the country; and The Print Center Gallery Store, which offers the largest and most diverse selection of contemporary prints and photographs in Philadelphia.

The Janet Turner Print Museum seeks artists who push the boundaries of traditional printmaking in unique and innovative ways including using combinations of media. Creative works that reference and expand printmaking’s traditions are encouraged. Print images, objects and related print works that can encompass 2D, 3D, book arts, printed ephemera, time-based work, and installations are eligible. Critical elements include a well-developed aesthetic including contemporary issues and their expression in content.


ELIGIBLE ARTISTS
Any artist working in and expanding printmaking as an art form is eligible to submit work. All submissions must have been created within the last two years.

Anne Collin s Goodyear, Co-Director, Bowdoin College Museum of Art, Maine; President, College Art Association; and former Associate Curator of Prints and Drawings, The National Portrait Gallery, Smithsonian Institution.

JUROR STATEMENT
“Contemporary art practice presents many new opportunities to rethink the nature of the medium and its boundaries. Printmaking lends itself to experimentation and a reconsideration of traditional boundaries. What makes a print a print? I look forward to reviewing artwork that explores this question while demonstrating excellence in craftsmanship and innovative thinking about new potentials for the fine art print.”

ENTRY FEE
$25.00 for each individual artwork entry. Diptych, triptych, etc. considered one entry.

ENTRY FORMAT for Juror and Catalog
Submit entries on a CD or USB flash drive. More than one entry may be submitted on same CD or drive. Externally mark CD or flash drive with your name. Each entry file must be labeled with the artist’s last name and entry number (e.g., Turner_1.jpg, Turner_2.jpg). Images must be submitted in digital format (jpeg preferred). Files must be 300 dpi and sized at approximately 6 x 8 inches in preparation for our catalog.

Please also submit, in addition to entry form, an image list that includes your full name, contact information, artwork title, year, technique and/or materials for each entry, as you would like it to appear in the catalog. For artworks submitted in a format other than CD or USB flash drive, please call or e-mail for consultation.

A completed hard copy entry form, including a working e-mail address and entry fee, must accompany each entry. Entry denotes acceptance of competition guidelines and the use of image for educational and publicity purposes. SASE required for submission return. Most communication for this competition will be done by e-mail.

AWARDS
Best in Show Friends Prize: Solo exhibition at the Janet Turner Print Museum in 2015. Additional cash prizes up to $2,000.00.

RELATED EVENTS
There will be an opening reception, awards announcement, and juror presentation. Dates and times will be announced and open to the public. A hard copy catalog will be produced, available on the Turner website through Blurb. The entire exhibition will be viewable as a slide show on the Turner website.

The exhibition will be in two locations on the CSU, Chico campus: Janet Turner Print Museum and University Art Gallery.

ENTRY DEADLINE
Entries must be postmarked by September 30, 2013. Please, no late or incomplete entries.

NOTIFICATION OF ACCEPTED ARTISTS
All entrants will be notified by e-mail of selected artists by November 7, 2013. Selected artists will also be notified separately by e-mail with exhibition details for shipping, presentation, installation and artist’s background material (artist statement, biography, and curriculum vitae).

All shipping costs and insurance while in transit are at the artist’s expense. Works appropriate for framing should be framed with Plexiglas.

CIDER GALLERY FINE ART INTERNSHIP

Cider Gallery Fine Art is presently looking for 1-2 fall interns that would have availabilityTuesday-Friday from 1-5p as well as art events and Final Fridays. 
Responsibilities would include gallery reception, helping maintain gallery Facebook page and other social media, assisting with daily gallery maintenance, very basic graphics and layout, assisting in hanging and curation of exhibitions. Looking for students interested in learning how a gallery operates, professional presentation of artwork, dealings with clients and artists, curation and business basics. Any graphics, art, and business skills are helpful.

Santo Foundation Individual Artist Grants

To celebrate our 5th Anniversary The Santo Foundation will be awarding five Individual Artist Awards. Our distinguished juror is Marilu Knode, Executive Director of Laumeier International Sculpture Park. She will award three individual artists $5000.00 each. In addition we are introducing the Artists Choose Artists Award. Internationally acclaimed artist and critical writer Buzz Spector will award two individual artists $500.00 each. Please see our call listed in Call for Entry.org. Entries are only accepted on callforentry.org. MFA students, emerging, mid-career and established artists are eligible. All art mediums/categories are eligible. National/International candidates are eligible. Deadline is August 30, 2013. $40.00 Fee.
