About the Juror Shannon Stratton is a founder and current Executive and Creative Director of threewalls Chicago, a not-for-profit residency and exhibition space. Founded in 2003, threewalls has grown from a start-up exhibition space to a vital visual arts organization that supports contemporary visual arts in Chicago through solo exhibitions for regional artists, residencies, grants to artists, publications, conferences and commissioning programs. Founded on the mission of better supporting visual arts in Chicago, threewalls aims to provide a stable base of support to extensive community of artists who call Chicago and greater Illinois home. Programmed in collaboration with a rotating committee of local artists, threewalls was modeled after the classic Canadian artist-run-center model, a program that Stratton was inspired by growing up in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. Stratton's background is both in studio practice and art history, theory and criticism with a focus in craft practice and artist-run administration. Her writing on contemporary craft, fiber art and exhibitions has been published by Berg Publishing and Ronsdale Press as well as university galleries, art centers, commercial galleries and magazines throughout the US and Canada. With Green Lantern Press she founded and published (via threewalls) PHONEBOOK, a guide to contemporary independent and artist-run projects, now in its third volume, and The Artists Run Chicago Digest, a companion, appraisal and extension to the exhibition of the same name at The Hyde Park Center. She is currently working with Chicago based Golden Age on the forthcoming edited volume Making Meaning, a series of texts and projects around contemporary ideas of craft. In 2010 Stratton was named one of the top 5 most vital people in the visual arts in Chicago by NewCity. She was a 2011 fellow of the NAMAC Visual Arts Leadership Institute and a finalist for the Chicago Community Trust Emerging Leader Award. Stratton teaches in Art History, Theory & Criticism and Fiber & Material Studies departments at The School of the Art Institute of Chicago. three-walls.org Questions Please email Underground Curator Joel Damon - [email protected]

The goal of the INDA is to support the recognition, documentation, and publication of excellent, diverse, and relevant works of current drawing from around the world. As a carefully designed and crafted book, the INDA series enables Manifest (a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization) to assemble a wide array of works of drawing by international artists, without the limitation of physical availability, gallery space, or shipping logistics. With this, Manifest leverages its considerable experience in publication design specifically for works of art, with a high level of sensitivity to the artist's point of view. Like all competitive Manifest projects, the INDA is juried by a carefully selected and well-qualified ten-person panel of academic and professional advisers. Note that the INDA project is open to broad interpretations of just what qualifies as 'drawing'. The publication is open to any artist submitting original works of art or design created within the past three years (2009 - 2011). Professionals and students in ALL disciplines are encouraged to submit. Manifest is eager to receive works of drawing in a wide range of applications (technical, graphic, fine art, design, architectural, digital, illustration, etc.) with the only qualification being that artwork submitted is representative of 'drawing' of some form. Submission deadline for entry: December 31, 2011 For details on how to enter visit: http://www.manifestgallery.org/inda7 Project History: In 2005 Manifest launched the International Drawing Annual project. In five completed volumes (the 6th is currently in production) the INDA has presented four hundred and seventeen works by 238 artists from around the world, and distributed the books far and wide to collectors, patrons, libraries, museum bookstores, art students, professors, and artists. Thousands view the online supplemental resources provided with each publication. The project has gathered considerable following over the past six years, making the INDA a respected source for a consistent, balanced, and intriguing sampling of excellent contemporary drawing. Manifest's book and gallery projects have become highly competitive and prestigious events for artists to be involved with. And each new project brings different artists together, with new work, in new ways, and with always surprising results. Furthermore, Manifest's books are designed and printed with the utmost care and attention to design integrity, making them exquisite documents of the art contained within. (Previous INDA books are available for viewing and purchase on the Manifest online bookstore and for purchase at Amazon.com). _
The SNAG Educational Endowment was founded in 1992. Its sole focus is awarding graduate and undergraduate educational scholarships each year. These are our most prestigious and highly competitive student scholarship awards. A selection committee of three independent jurors determines the awards. Three scholarships are given annually. Undergraduate and graduate students are juried separately, and at least one award goes to an undergraduate each year. As a direct result of the tremendous success of the Raffle for our Educational Endowment, SNAG's board has increased the amounts of the Educational Endowment Scholarships. Beginning in 2011, there will be three tiers of awards: one for $2,000, one for $1,500, and the third at $1,000. In addition to the scholarship money, each recipient also receives:

Description Casa dell'Arte Artists in Residence Program aims to provide an alternative platform for artistic production, collaboration and exhibition in the Eastern Mediterranean region by making the resources of Casa dell'Arte in Bodrum available to visual artists. The residency program is held twice a year, in spring and autumn, with the participation of 5 artists and 1 curator for a period of 6 weeks. At the end of this period an exhibition is held at Casa dell'Arte Hotel of Arts & Leisure in Bodrum, prior to a general exhibition in Istanbul. A yearly publication documenting the program and the artworks is published in autumn with contributions from resident curator and artists. The program also aims to develop a public outreach through the involvement of artists with the local community through an individual or a collaborative project. While each artist is required to have a project proposal in the beginning, we strongly encourage their interaction with the local setting and experimentation with alternative materials and or ideas that may emerge during the residency. The Curator in Residence Each year, Casa dell'Arte invites a young curator to develop the residency program around their curatorial perspective. The curator in residence is responsible for preparing the final exhibition held at Casa dell'Arte Hotel of Arts & Leisure and acting as the editor of the yearly publication in collaboration with Casa dell'Arte. In addition, all suggestions regarding the organization of the program, guest lecturers and institutional partnerships are strongly encouraged. Application Procedure The selection procedure to determine participating artists is carried out by Casa dell'Arte in collaboration with the curator in residence. The residency program is open to young curators and visual artists from all disciplines. Applications are to be sent by email ([email protected]) and must include following elements: - A resume featuring selected exhibitions, projects, grants, awards, past residencies, educational background and contact information. - A statement of purpose describing your reasons to participate in the program and the project you intend to carry out during the residency (No more than 500 words) - For Artists: a portfolio including information on dimensions, materials used and year of production (No more than 10 low-resolution images). - For Curators: documentation on previous curatorial work (no more than 2 sample texts and 10 low resolution images) DEADLINE FOR APPLICATIONS 20 January 2012 For further information: www.casadellartegallery.com [email protected] http://www.fransmasereelcentrum.be/
