The Undergraduate College Student Exhibition is right around the corner and we want to make sure that everyone knows all about it! Each year, KCAC invites undergraduate students from both Kansas and Missouri to participate in this juried exhibition. We are happy to announce that this year's juror is Sonie Joi Ruffin - Visiting Curator of the American Jazz Museum in Kansas City, Missouri. The student exhibition encourages undergraduate students to participate in a gallery show in Kansas City and compete for the Leigh Rosenberg Earnest Memorial Fund Scholarship which is awarded to up to four of the most outstanding participants as judged by our juror. Don't forget the deadlines for the Student Show are fast approaching. http://sota.ku.edu/student-travel-fund The University of Kansas School of the Arts provides travel funds to support the professional development of its students and to increase the visibility of its academic programs. Applicants should note that funding priority will be given to students who were selected to participate in professional programs, conferences and events on the basis of a peer review of their work (portfolio, audition tape, written proposal, etc.). Applicants may only receive funding once per academic year (fall, spring, summer). There are three options for student travel funding: Option 1: Up to $2501 may be awarded to students who attend regional or national professional conferences directly related to their area of study. Students attending conferences as a group must still apply to Student Travel Fund individually. Option 2: Up to $5001 may be awarded for the following activities:

http://ugresearch.ku.edu/student/share/symposium/cover-contest The Center for Undergraduate Research is soliciting artwork for the cover of the program for the 18th annualUndergraduate Research Symposium to be held at KU on April 25, 2015. The design will appear on the program for the day’s events, as well as promotional materials associated with the Symposium. The winner of the cover art competition will also receive $100. The Center often uses the phrase “Claim your Curiosity” in marketing to students; the winning design will communicate this spirit of curiosity that is at the heart of undergraduate research. Your submission could include text (with the title of the event, etc.) as part of the design, or it could be a stand-alone image that we will then incorporate into a poster layout for our promotional purposes. The Undergraduate Research Symposium is an annual event at KU that celebrates the diversity of undergraduate research and creative activities on campus. Students present their research and creative scholarship to others in the Lawrence community. Any undergraduate student at KU is eligible to participate in this competition. Submissions for the cover design should be saved as an electronic document (pdf, jpg, png, etc.) and sent via the online submission form by noon on Friday, February 27th. Guidelines for Professional Conference Classification KU undergraduates are eligible to apply for funding from the Center for Undergraduate Research in order to present their original research at professional conferences. Please use the following guidelines to determine whether or not the conference you plan to attend would be considered a “professional conference.” If you feel that your conference does not meet these criteria but is still a “professional” conference for some reason, please email[email protected].
Department of Visual Art Professional Development Assistance Award Deadline: Monday, December 9, 2013, 4pm Submit to the Visual Art Department office (Room 300, Art & Design Building) The Department of Visual Art awards funding to outstanding students to support their professional creative activities after graduation. If you will be graduating after this Fall 2013 semester, you are eligible to apply. Additional requirements can be found on the attached guideline. THIS FALL 2013, THERE IS FUNDING AVAILABLE FOR STUDENTS IN VISUAL ART WHO MEET THE FOLLOWING CRITERIA: 1) Creative research proposals from female undergraduate student(s) in all media 2) Creative research proposals with student’s work in figurative painting and/or drawing 3) Creative research proposals with student’s work in painting and/or drawing Note: Final awards will range from approximately $500 – up to $1000 Every year, the Department of Visual Art grants Professional Development Assistance Awards to graduating seniors to financially assist in their post-graduate professional activities. These can include gallery exhibition, artist residency, professional workshops, professional materials developments, such as websites and other published promotional materials, research travels, etc. The awards are given on the basis of merit and quality of the submitted professional development proposal and accompanying budget proposal, applicant’s academic record, creative work, resumé, and artist statement. DIVINE: A JURIED EXHIBITION
The Leedy-Voulkos Art Center 2012 Baltimore Avenue Kansas City, MO 64108 January 3 –March 1, 2014 Sponsored by P&M ARTWORKS Submission Deadline: December 2, 2013 Artist Notification: December 9, 2013 P&M Artworks seeks entries within the greater metropolitan Kansas City and Lawrence, KS areas for its third annual juried exhibition. Works in a range of visual art media are welcome, including painting, works on paper, photography, sculpture, glass, jewelry/metal work, furniture, textiles and digital/video responding to the theme, “Divine.” A variety of interpretations centered on individual meanings and reflections on the idea of “Divine” will be selected for the exhibition. Guest jurors, MICHAEL KRUEGER, acclaimed artist and tenured Associate Professor of Printmaking, Digital Art and Drawing at The University of Kansas, and BLAIR SCHULMAN, Kansas City art writer and critic, alongside art historian Patricia B. Glenn and Michael J. Pronko, MD of P&M Artworks, will select three artists from the show for individual cash awards ($600/1st, $400/2nd, $200/3rd), exposure on the P&M Artworks website and special press coverage. ELIGIBILITY -Must be 18 or older to enter. -Must be an artist residing in greater Kansas City and Lawrence, KS. Submission Guidelines -Artists may enter up to three submissions/project proposals for a $15 fee. Checks must be payable to P&M Artworks. -Work for the exhibition will be selected primarily based on the visual elements of the piece itself, however the written proposal explaining the piece’s relation to the theme will be taken into consideration. -Each submission can be represented by up to two professional quality j-peg images, 300 dpi, 4 x 6 inches on a CD (one overall view and one optional detail view). File names must include artist’s last name and the work’s title (i.e. last name-title.jpg). -CDs should include a file (label as ‘commentary’) containing a 250-word project proposal explaining how submissions relate to the theme of Divine, an image list, and a resume (label as ‘resume’) including all artist contact information and can include an artist statement if desired. -The image list file (label as ‘image list’) must include information: title, medium, dimensions (H x W x D, in inches) and date of work/s. Please number images in accordance with image list. Images that are improperly labeled or lack any of the above information will not be considered. -Submission should represent current work or work completed within the past two years. -Work may not exceed a dimension of 60 by 40 inches, or a weight of 75 pounds. -All works must be for sale.
